Cristiano Ronaldo won his fifth Ballon d’Or on Thursday, but there was one person in his life who wasn’t there to see it: his late father.
Ronaldo’s proud sister, Katia Aveiro, today shared a tear-jerking Instagram post after mocking up an image of their dad proudly looking at Ronaldo after his big win.
The picture shows José Dinis Aveiro, who died in 2005, standing watching a television with his hands on his hips. On the screen is an image of Ronaldo clutching his award with brother Hugo Aveiro, sisters Katia and Elma, and their mum Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro.
Katia captioned the image:
“Just for 10 seconds, Dad, I would give it all just for 10 seconds.” Their father died in 2005, when Ronaldo was still at Old Trafford, due to liver failure. He never saw his son win the Ballon d’Or. His death came three years before Ronaldo’s first award
