Sugar is like the forbidden fruit of the modern diet. While it tastes incredible and we pretty much add it to everything these days, it may actually be killing us too. Well, the truth is eating sugars can’t kill us and it is best to eat them most of the time.

The sugar “addiction” you feel isn’t biological and is probably due to your own personal battle with dessert. However, too much of anything, including vegetables and fruits is not good for you. Loading up on sugar and not eating some other nutrients is going to have its drawbacks, and some of these may include an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Furthermore, with more and more people becoming hypertensive and diabetic, it is definitely something you will want to avoid. For you to prevent the negative health effects before they happen, it is important that you remain aware of how much sugar you’re eating and look for your body’s signs that you’re overdoing it.

Here are three of the biggest warning signs your body wants you to be eating less sugar.

You’re tired all the time
Sugar gives your body a lot of energy really quickly and your body tends to use up those energy as quickly as it gets it. Without you having longer sources of body fuel such as dietary fat and protein, you are most likely going to quickly experience an energy crash after you’ve eaten a sugary serving.

Even if you get to eat the same amount of calories as you would otherwise eat, there is a greater chance that you will feel exponentially less energized by your food if you rely on sugary foods a lot of the time.

Your mood seems to be bipolar
One of the ways to know you are eating a lot of sugars is how your mood is. Sugar gets your hormones to react immediately. As such, you get a spike of insulin and serotonin, which are the hormones that gets you in a happy and cheerful mood. This is immediately followed by a huge crash of both.

You feel sluggish and your mood plummets, causing you to crave more sugar and wanting to “emotionally eat”. You may also just feel depressed and awful until your next meal.

You’re thirsty even after drinking water
Sugar, much like salt, causes feelings of dehydration. As a result of any kind of excess sugar floating around in your bloodstream, your body needs more water to balance out. This will usually cause your body to retain fluids which would being on certain effects, such as you feeling large and bloaty after having a meal.

It is however important to note that sugar is not the only food that makes you feel bloated, but they surely do contribute to bloating. If you exhibit all or some of these signs, it is best for you to cut down on your sugar intake or better still, see a doctor for more advice.
